Hey y’all!
Chances are if you’ve landed on my website you are a new or expecting parent trying to navigate the exciting (and sometimes daunting) world of new parenthood.
We all start somewhere! I remember it like it was yesterday – long before I worked in this field, I was right there with my brand new baby just trying to figure it all out too!
So trust me, Mama. I have been been in your shoes.
There are so many resources and voices in our ears from the moment we announce a pregnancy to the world.
It can be confusing, conflicting, and overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be.
How you might ask? That’s where I come in!
Allow me to formally introduce myself! My name is Demi and I am a modern parent, much like yourself, Certified Doula and IBCLC who was called to serve. Long ago when my path was laid out for me, I was figuring things out all alone with my new baby. I didn’t know much about newborns but knew I wanted to give my baby the best start possible. Little did I know that I would face challenges nobody prepared me for.
Fast forward many years later, I have a robust background, solidified by my clinical education, and experience working with hundreds of families over the course of my career these last 7 years. As an IBCLC, Doula, and accredited La Leche League Peer Support Leader – I’ve had the privilege to work with families as they navigated the journey from conception, pregnancy, birth, caring for their newborns, and breastfeeding (from initiation, through weaning or nursing into subsequent pregnancies and everything in between!)
I bring a suitcase full of empathy, an open mind, a dash of education, and a whole lot of respect into the experiences I have with families.
My background and history:
I grew up in Southern Virginia (in the same city Virginia Tech is located in!) before joining the Army after High School. I’ve spent time in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and settled in the Washington DC area. I am grateful to have been able to purse an education as an IBCLC when I landed here years ago and was eager to launch my career as a doula and finish my board-certification exam requirements. In the city, I was able to have a robust education and clinical training!
I began my work as an Accredited La Leche League Leader for the bustling Old Town Alexandria group where I remained for 5 years. During that time, as well, I completed my 1000 hour clinical internship with an outpatient lactation group in the Washington DC metropolitan area under an incredible staff of highly trained IBCLCs, including my chief mentor who was a Pediatric Nurse Practioner with her Doctorate. Additionally, I trained and certified as a birth and postpartum doula and was blessed to have worked with hundreds of families by the time I became an IBCLC. I’m a proud Liberty University Alumni, as well!

My Ethos: My goal as your IBCLC is to listen to where you are, where you want to go, and help you get there in a gentle and sustainable way while empowering you as the expert on your baby. I listen earnestly, support without bias, and will be there for you every step of the way!
